New Week, New Challenge.
Reflections.
So I go literal and just have someone in front of a mirror?
Do I do a deeper, introspective take on the theme?
Do I go comical and do a vampire without his reflection?

Breaking Rules

It always comes back to rules.
And whether one should follow them, or break them.
It's one of the fundamental concepts I teach my students, and one I generally follow, but there is a lot of pushback from artists these days to break the rules.
I don't mind breaking them, but breaking the rules JUST to break the rules doesn't always produce good art.
There has to be more.
A reason.

I sent in some pics to 500px this week. And I already got news that one of them is shortlisted for one of their "Quests". These are photo challenges with cash prizes, apparently.

How Much Can You See?
Feb 07,2022 08:00
This week the challenge is "Depth of Field" - which is really not much of a challenge because one can choose shallow or deep depth of field and take any kind of image they want as long as they claim that they meant to shoot it like that.
The typical image for this challenge is a macro with very shallow depth of field. I may revert to that.
I would also like to do something more interesting and artistic - perhaps a close-up of a knife, and a very blurry background that looks like a murder scene.
You know…. something fun.

Excited to say that I've been chosen from over 3000 images to be one of the 52Picks for the Minimalist shot I did of Brad at the beach. The shot inspired by what I shall refer to as the Minimalist Macbeth. Read More…
