All About the Background

This week the challenge is either very complex or very simple; it depends on how you want to view it.
I've been thinking about it as the complex challenge, as I'm wont to do.
For me, this challenge is to photograph a subject but then also have something interesting in the background to capture the attention and take it away from the foreground subject and hold focus on the background.
I have been inspired by an episode of Community in this regard.
However, I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I've been looking at how to add special effects to images - like fire in the background or creating vapor trails of UFPs in the skies behind my model.
I haven't done well in practice shots, yet, but i've got all week to work on it.
And then there's the simple challenge of just getting a model.
It's not been an easy year for finding hot boys to strip down for me.
Must be something in the ease of selfies that put a kibosh on my winning streak.
The easy way, by the way, is just to put some thought into blurring the background with selective focus or fill the frame to eliminate the background.
One could even use complementary colors for the background - green leaves behind a pink flower, for example.
But no. Not me. I've got to muck it up and go the complicated route.
